The Quervain's tenosynovitis It is a pathology that affects the tendons at the base of the thumb (abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis) and the synovial sheath that covers them. These tendons pass through a narrow compartment and when they become inflamed or irritated they can cause pain.
This pathology affects to a greater extent the women. Repetitive hand movements can cause this tissue irritation, which is why people who work with hands (hairdressers, mouse, tool handling, etc.) are more likely to suffer from it.

The main symptom that this injury can cause is Pain at the base of the thumb or on the radial side of the wrist, especially when performing movements that involve the thumb and wrist, such as grasping and holding the weight of objects, twisting the hand, clenching the fist, or making pincer movements. Other symptoms may include swelling and tenderness.
He diagnosis The Finkelstein manoeuvre is used to test for this condition. To perform it, the patient must close his fist with the thumb inside the hand and then tilt the wrist towards the little finger. If pain occurs at the base of the thumb or on the radial side of the wrist, we say that the test is positive.
